Its always a big decision to use part of your hard earned annual leave entitlement on a triathlon, biking or training holiday. Even harder when you want to take your non participating partner along. How will you balance training or riding with your companion also having an enjoyable time? Thankfully our trip to the Chalet le Clos, and Triathlon Holidays was brilliant for both Sara and myself.
The chalet is located in the heart of the village of Macot la Plagne in the Tarentaise Valley, some 12 km from the town of Bourg St Maurice and about 40 km from Albertville who hosted the Winter Olympics in 1990. It’s near the valley bottom rather than high in the mountains which makes the local area far more accessible.
The region Savoie region is the location for some of the world’s most iconic cycle climbs, such as; Col de la Madeleine, Col de l’Iseran, Cormet de Roselend and Col du Petit St Bernard that leads in to Italy. A little further afield there are the majestic Col du Galibier, Col du Glandon and the iconic climb to Alpe d’Huez. On the doorstep there are also climbs to the local ski resorts – La Plagne, Les Arcs, Val d’Isere, Tignes, La Rosiere and Courchevel to mention only a few.
The River Isere runs through the valley with a peaceful cycle path running the 15km stretch between Aime and Bourg St Maurice. Further down the valley between Albertville and the town of Annecy runs another cycle path – this time at nearly 40km in length!
We had a brilliant week. Paul Morgan provided us with a half board package which included a hearty breakfast and fabulous evening meal. The chalet is a relaxed family run chalet. It’s in the heart of the village and local life. A real taste of France.
Would we recommend this holiday? Most definitely. You can make the riding as hard or easy as you want. There is also plenty to do for a non riding companion so long as they have use of a car.
Expect to find Challet de Clos on our training camp itinerary linked to the Triathlons at Annecy and Dussard. http://www.triathlonholidays.co.uk/
